Rivals get a bonus game

Calvin and Hope set up an extra meeting of the top rivalry in Division III basketball, as each won their opening round game of the Select Bank Tournament. Despite the pair having played in the same tournament for the previous 10 years, it's the first time the two will meet.

Calvin leads the series 81-80 and just 22 points separate the two teams across the 161 games. The rivalry is also responsible for the highest single-game attendance in Division III, 11,442 in January 1997. The Knights advanced by beating an NAIA team, Aquinas, 81-65. Hope defeated another NAIA team, Cornerstone, 80-76.

No. 25 UW-Stevens Point won its third game in a row, following season-opening wins at Caroll and Lawrence with a 90-76 win at Ripon. Six players scored in double figures for the Pointers as the team hit 14 three-pointers.

Ohio Wesleyan dealt Illinois Wesleyan its first loss of the season, shooting 54% from the floor including 22 points from Dustin Rudegeair. Friday night's men's scores.
