Hickey tops blocks chart

Grotberg reaches 2,000-point club

Senior All-America center Liz Hickey scored a game-high 23 points, added 10 rebounds, and blocked five shots in breaking the NCAA Division III career blocked shots record as No. 6 Mary Washington defeated Wesley 74-46 on Wednesday night. Hickey now has 487 career blocked shots, two more than Cori Carson, who recorded 485 blocks in 85 games over three seasons.

The Eagles started off the game red hot from the floor, with junior Katy Larson making her first four three point attempts en route to 16 points and six assists. The Eagles led, 40-26, at halftime.

Mary Washington (22-2, 14-1 CAC) clinched the top seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament next week with the win.

The Class of 2007 is well-represented in the career block totals, with Denison's Kristen Sheffield now tied for 11th at 336, UW-Stout's Kelsey Duoss 20th at 285, Salve Regina's Megan Barry 22nd at 280 and Washington and Lee's Jessica Hunsinger 25th at 267.

Grinnell junior John Grotberg scored 37 points in a 100-80 win at home over Knox, as the team clinched the fourth and final Midwest Conference men's conference tourney berth. The junior is the fourth Division III men's player to reach the 2,000-point mark this season and currently has 2,014 points in this career.
