Kent Raymond became the second Division III men's basketball player to join the 2,000-point club within the past week, as part of a 26-point performance in Wednesday night's home win against No. 11 Augustana.
The point guard for No. 1 Wheaton (Ill.) left late in the game with an apparent ankle injury and returned to the bench area with his ankle iced and on crutches. He appeared to land awkwardly after a layup.
The Thunder led by 10 when he departed and held on to win 79-71.
Thunder coach Bill Harris said after the game: "Kent is great player. Plus, he is not one-dimensional -- he can play great defense, is a good rebounder, is a tremendous passer and in general makes his teammates better."
&&g-boxr&&Raymond surpassed 1,500 points last Feb. 23, with a 37-point performance against Elmhurst. He averages 25.1 points per game this season and leads the team with 4.0 assists per contest.
He's the second Division III basketball player recorded to reach the milestone this season, following Wesley guard Rashawn Johnson. He reached the milestone as part of a 21-point performance on Jan. 10 in a 65-57 win against Marymount.
