No. 3 Washington U. had little trouble with No. 21 Chicago, 63-34. Top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan broke it open in the first half, then blew it up in the second half with a 15-0 run en route to crushing No. 11 Carthage 76-48.
Two undefeated teams picked up their first losses on Saturday: No. 13 UW-River Falls lost 76-62 at No. 19 UW-Whitewater, as the Warhawks got a career-high 18 from Chantel Burg and 18 more from Kelsey Hendrickson. No. 5 Bowdoin was hot in the first half, but ice cold in the second and No. 23 Emmanuel made the Polar Bears pay in a 61-53 win. Bowdoin lost for the first time this season, thanks in large part to shooting 6-for-27 from the floor in the second half. Emmanuel got 14 points and 14 rebounds from Fiona O'Dwyer in the win.
No. 16 Mount Union had another poor day from the floor, shooting 27 percent in a 58-49 home loss to Otterbein. Mass.-Dartmouth has not won a conference game since February 2008 and has won just two in three plus seasons. But the Corsairs narrowly missed a big upset in conference before falling to Southern Maine, 61-60. St. Norbert lost an 11-point lead and lost the game to Ripon, 62-61. The Red Hawks are 7-3, 3-0 in the Midwest Conference.
Senior point guard Andrea Bailey banked in a 40-foot buzzer-beating heave in overtime to give the Wheaton women's basketball team a thrilling 64-63 victory over WPI. Katie Kitzman scored 15 of her career-high 23 points in the second half and overtime and Simpson connected on free throws down the stretch in a 78-67 win against Loras. Megan Maslowski lifted UW-Stout over UW-Platteville 86-84 by scoring with 0.3 seconds left. Amy Doyle had an even more dramatic shot for Texas Lutheran, banking in a three from well behind the arc as time expired to force a second overtime against University of Ozarks. Texas Lutheran went on to win, 89-86 in double overtime. Chatham went to double overtime for the first time in school history where the Cougars beat Geneva 73-68.
