More news about: Brockport | Calvin | MIT | St. Norbert

Calvin provided the afternoon's biggest men's conference championship upset, by margin of victory at least, while Springfield and MIT pulled off upsets in the NEWMAC semifinals that threaten to make that a three-bid league.

Calvin used a 20-3 run in the second half to take a nine-point game and turn it into a blowout as the Knights rolled over No. 24 Hope 78-53. The Knights are making their 19th trip to the NCAA Tournament.

St. Norbert put away hard-charging Grinnell to clinch the Midwest Conference automatic bid and assure itself a place in the NCAA Tournament Field of 62 by defeating the Pioneers 99-86. St. Norbert, which has just one loss on the season, found itself fifth in the Midwest Regional rankings behind four CCIW teams and its at-large status was hardly secure. The Green Knights scored the final 13 points of the game to win.

Brockport State rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit and got a hand in the closing seconds to defeat Plattsburgh State 57-56 in the SUNYAC title game. Plattsburgh State called one time out too many, sending the Golden Eagles to the foul line with two seconds left, where one made free throw was enough for the victory.

MIT opened the second half on a 25-5 run to break open a game that was tied at the half and go on to knock off top-seeded and 14th-ranked WPI in the NEWMAC semifinals. With Babson also losing to Springfield in overtime in the other semi, the NEWMAC could get three teams in. MIT is not in the regional rankings, but the other three conference semifinalists were.

Eric Alleyne scored 19 and Victor Smith added 17 as the two combined to shoot 15-for-21 from the field in Rhode Island College's win at top-seeded Eastern Connecticut in the Little East final. RIC's win bursts somebody's bubble, as Eastern Connecticut will likely qualify for an at-large bid.

Wheaton (Ill.) secured its bid into the NCAA Tournament with an 87-66 win at Illinois Wesleyan. The win doesn't change the CCIW's status as a two- or three-bid league, however, as Illinois Wesleyan will likely be one of the first at-large teams in.

Hampden-Sydney kept its run going into the ODAC title game, defeating Eastern Mennonite 104-80. A Hampden-Sydney win on Sunday would burst somebody's bubble hopes. Virginia Wesleyan ended 11th-seeded Washington and Lee's attempt to run the ODAC bracket and will face the Tigers for the title.

Freshman Pete Drescher hit two free throws with eight seconds left in the second overtime to lift Hobart to a 75-74 win against Vassar, clinching the Liberty League automatic bid. Vassar had a chance to win at the end of regulation and Hobart missed a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime to set up the second extra session. Joe Gibbons led the way for the Statesmen with 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting.

The final seconds and celebration at Marian.

No. 17 Mary Washington went on a 10-4 run to open the second half and a 12-2 run down the stretch to put away Christopher Newport 65-48 to win the Capital Athletic Conference title game.

Johns Hopkins knocked off Dickinson to win the Centennial Conference tournament and earn its first NCAA Tournament trip since 2007.

Sophomore Drew Binversie led the way for Marian as the Sabres clinched an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since 2001, defeating Edgewood 65-61. The win ended the seventh-seeded Eagles' Cinderella run through the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament. Postgame interview | Photo gallery

Charles Cooper hit an off-balance, 15-foot runner with 1.5 seconds left to give second-seeded Alvernia a 70-69 comeback win over top-seeded Stevenson in the Commonwealth Conference championship game. With Dickinson's loss, and Wesley's earlier in the week, Stevenson is at best the third candidate for an at-large bid out of the Mid-Atlantic.

Albertus Magnus had no trouble with St. Joseph's (Maine), avoiding bubble status with an 84-49 win over the Monks in the GNAC final. Darius Watson scored 21 points on the afternoon to lead Albertus as he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Gordon punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a win on the home floor of top seed Nichols. The Scots got 15 from Hans Miersma and held Nichols to 19-for-58 shooting. Husson improved to 26-2 and won the North Atlantic Conference automatic bid, but needed overtime to do it, holding off sub-.500 Maine-Farmington 96-89. Trevon Butler scored 28 points to lead the Eagles.
