The floater for Utica has landed.

Best of luck ever getting all 20 at-large teams correct, but 19 out of 20 is pretty good. 95% is still an A, right?

Dave McHugh spent 26 minutes on Saturday night's show pushing back against the University of Rochester getting into the field. In the end ... Rochester wasn't the one we missed. At pick 20, we took UW-La Crosse, but the committee took Utica instead.

Since the show was delayed by an hour, one might surmise that it was Dave again halting the show for a debate of Rochester's candidacy! But it was not.

After making a ton of decisions based on strength of schedule, the last pick of Utica seems to be primarily a winning percentage selection. When the final regional rankings are published, we'll learn more about who the last teams were on the board, but in our mock bracket from Sunday night, Utica had the best winning percentage left at the end, and a bunch of wins against regionally ranked opponents, but none of them against the top one or two teams in any region, which led our committee to look elsewhere.

This bracket sends Pomona-Pitzer to Connecticut. It sends Cal Lutheran to Rowan. It sends Whitworth to Philadelphia. That's because there were four Texas teams which qualified, meaning no west coast teams had to fly to Texas, a more traditional first-round destination. Pomona-Pitzer against Williams, with the winner likely to face a top five team in St. Joseph of Connecticut? That's a fun bracket. Can't argue that.
