TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University senior guard Darion Capers (Clayton/Trotwood-Madison) was named Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for the week of Monday, Dec. 5-Sunday, Dec. 11, announced today by the league office. Capers helped the Student Princes to a 1-1 record, including its first OAC win of the 2011-12 season at Muskingum University.
Capers averaged 17.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game and shot a blistering 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the field.
Despite a setback to Baldwin-Wallace College (Dec. 7), Capers poured in a game-high 22 points on an eight-of-10 shooting performance, was six-of-nine from the free throw line and tallied four rebounds.
In Heidelberg's (2-5, 1-3 OAC) 64-52 victory at Muskingum (Dec. 10), Capers scored 13 points to lead a quartet of Student Princes who scored in double figures. He recorded a five-of-eight shooting performance, hauled in three caroms and came up with two steals.
This season, Capers leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg.), is second in shooting percentage (57.4), fourth in rebounding (4.6 rpg.) and has 10 assists and seven steals to his credit.
Heidelberg next plays Thursday, Dec. 15 when it hosts Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a non-conference match at Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
