Saints Defeat Saint Vincent, 75-70, to Advance to PAC Championship Game

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) scored a career-high-tying 25 points to lead the third-seeded Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 75-70, win over fourth-seeded Saint Vincent College tonight (Thursday, February 23, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament semifinal game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 20-7 and advance to the PAC Championship Tournament's championship game where they will play top-seeded Bethany College on Saturday (February 25) at 7:30 p.m. in Bethany, West Virginia.  With the loss, the Bearcats end the season at 19-8.

Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 17-8 lead when Tauvon Pettiford made a jumper with 14:36 to play in the opening half.  Thomas More answered with a 14-2 run capped by a lay-up by junior shooting guard Ross Renken (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to take a 22-19 lead with 9:16 to play in the first half.  The Bearcats closed out the half on a 16-10 run to take a 35-32 lead at halftime when Chris Klimchock made a jumper with 1:26 to play in the half. 

Saint Vincent opened the second half on a 6-1 run to increase the lead to 41-33 on an Armani Fountain lay-up with 17:07 to play in the game.  Thomas More responded with an 18-8 run to take a 51-49 lead with 9:23 to play in the game when Renken made one-of-two free-throws.  The Bearcats answered with a 12-8 run capped by a Dennis Bassich lay-up with 6:06 to play in the game to retake the lead at 61-59.  The Saints came right back with a 16-4 run to build a 75-65 lead with nine-seconds to play in the game when Renken made a lay-up.  Saint Vincent closed out the game on a 5-0 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game 75-70 and advance to its third PAC championship game in four years.

Joining Feinberg in double-figure scoring was senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) with 21 points and sophomore point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) with 10 points.  Feinberg led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds to complete his eighth double-double of the season.  Feinberg and sophomore shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) led the team in assists with three each.
