NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman Lucas Stanley (New Castle, Pa., Union) buried nine three-pointers in Westminster's 96-83 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Bethany Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
The wire-to-wire Senior Celebration Day win locked up the No. 1 seed in the PAC North for the Titans, who improved to 15-8 overall and pushed its conference record to 10-4. Westminster had dropped three of its last four meetings with Bethany before its win Saturday.
Seven players were honored before tipoff: Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch), DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical), Skevos Kouros (Youngstown, Ohio, Campbell), Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem), Alex Rothwell (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local) Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) and Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman).
Stanley finished with a career-high 27 points, connecting on nine of his 12 three-point field goal attempts. He went 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line in the first half to help the Titans take a commanding 49-31 lead into the break. Stanley's nine made three-pointers were the most in a game since Doug Smith knocked down 10 as part of a 40-point effort in a 92-87 overtime loss at Washington & Jefferson on Nov. 28. 2012.
Weir posted his fifth double-double of the year, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Harrell scored 17 and added six rebounds and four assists while freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) chipped in with 16 points and six boards. DePietro had eight points, four assists and four blocked shots.
Co Rose had 22 points and five assists for Bethany (10-13, 6-8 PAC).
Westminster made a season-high 24 free throws (30 attempts) in the win. It was the third time this season the Titans eclipsed 90 points in a game.
