La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 81-70 victory over Loras College (Iowa) Sunday afternoon in the Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 3-2 while the Duhawks fall to 4-1.
The game was tied 9-9 with 15:20 remaining in the first half when UW-L went on a 14-2 run to lead 23-11 with 11:05 left. Camile Driscoll scored eight points in the run for the Eagles. UW-L led 29-18 with 6:57 left, but Loras used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 29-26 with 5:13 remaining. The Eagles led 40-34 at the half.
The contest was tied 40-40 with 16:12 left when UW-L went on a 13-0 run to lead 53-40 with 12:29 remaining. The Duhawks used a 17-6 run to cut the lead to 59-57 with 7:32 remaining after a Katie Langmeier jumper. UW-L's Erin Levenhagen hit a jumper to make it 61-57 and after a Langmeier turnover, Briana Radowicz connected on a three-pointer for a 64-57 lead with 6:46 left.
Loras later cut the lead to 72-68 with 2:34 remaining after a pair of Kaitlin Phillips free throws, but the Duhawks could get no closer the rest of the game. The Eagles went nine-of-10 at the free throw line in the final 1:33.
Radowicz finished with a career-high 24 points while adding seven steals, four rebounds and three assists. She was 11-of-15 from the field, including one-of-two from three-point range, and one-of-three at the line. Driscoll scored a career-high 21 points with four rebounds and four steals. She was seven-of-11 from the field, including two-of-three from three-point range, and five-of-six at the free throw line.
Gretchen Linzmeier had a career-high 12 points for the Eagles while Levenhagen finished with a career-high 10 points. Linzmeier was five-of-eight from the field and two-of-two at the free throw line. Levenhagen had five rebounds. Maggi Bishop scored six points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
UW-L shot 54.5% from the field, including 44.4% (four-of-nine) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 70.8% (17-of-24) at the line.
Niki Rivera led Loras with 16 points and five assists while Langmeier finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Lauren Byrne and Phillips each had 10 points.
Loras shot 45.6% from the field, including 40.0% (six-of-15) from three-point range. The Duhawks shot 63.2% (12-of-19) at the free throw line.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 1 at UW-Eau Claire at 5 p.m. in its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
