Alverno Rolls Over Marian For Home Victory

More news about: Alverno

MILWAUKEE -- Both the Alverno College offense and defense were clicking Saturday night as the host Inferno rolled Marian University, 70-45, inside Reiman Gymnasium.

Three Inferno players scored in double figures led by Tessa Mersberger's 12 on a 4-for-5 performance from the 3-point arc. Rookie Mackenzie Mathies scored 11 with three triples and Gabby Hood added 10 points and five assists.

Hood also hauled in a game-high eight rebounds as Alverno (9-10, 6-8 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) dominated the boards 44-28.

The Inferno defense, which held an opponent under 50 points for the third time this season, tallied 15 steals led by freshmen Nala Mudd's four and Karli Selear's three.

The Sabres (5-14, 3-11 NACC) entered the game with league-best averages of 7.0 3-pointers made and 23.2 attempted per contest, but were held to their season lows of both, as the visitors shot just 2-of-10 from long range against tonight's stingy Alverno defense.

Meanwhile the Inferno was its most accurate of the season with the long ball as the team connected on over 42 percent (8-of-19) of its 3s.

Alverno hits the hardwood again Tuesday as it hosts Dominican University for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
