Ohio Wesleyan, the No. 14 team in the country, hit 3-pointers from all over the building -- 25 of them, in fact -- as the Battling Bishops (9-1) blew past No. 6 Ramapo 98-69. Seth Clark went 7-for-14 from downtown and Nick Heidel added five 3-pointers off the bench as seven OWU players hit from long range on the night. The performance obliterated the D3hoops.com Classic team record for 3-pointers in a game and Clark tied the individual mark. Clark finished with a game-high 25 points, while Nate Axelrod added 18 points and a game-high seven assists in the win. Ramapo fell to 9-2.
Jaran Sabus had 15 points and Nate Woeste and Sawyer Herman added 14 points apiece as No. 13 Wartburg improved to 9-1 with a 75-66 win vs. UW-Stevens Point. The Knights took a 14-point halftime lead and extended it to 20 early on as a Cam Kickbush 3-pointer made it 50-30. The Pointers rallied to to get back in the game midway through the half and got as close as 71-66 on a Drew Frederickson 3-pointer with 30 seconds left, but Woeste went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch to end the threat.
Augsburg survived a tough battle, holding on to defeat Carroll 74-69. Augsburg (7-2) led by nine early in the second half, but Carroll went on a 10-1 run to tie the game at 40-40. The Pioneers (3-7) tied it up again at 44 and Troy Howat hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 65-65 with 2:04 left. But Booker Coplin hit a 3 to give the Auggies the lead and Collin Olmscheid hit a layup, allowing Augsburg to put it away at the foul line. Coplin finished with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin McKiernan added 10 points.
In the day's opener, UW-Stout threatened, even taking a lead in the fourth period, but No. 6 Trine pulled away for a 52-46 win. Amber Fabeck hit a 3-pointer at the top of the key to give UW-Stout (6-4) a 34-32 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. But she missed another one on the next possession, and was outdueled by defender Hayley Martin in the post on her next two shots, allowing Trine (11-0) to tie the game. From there, the Thunder went on a 14-0 run to put the game away. Martin led all scorers with 21 points and added 12 rebounds and five blocked shots in the win.
No. 3 Amherst recovered from a slow start and closed the first half on a 17-4 run, then put UC Santa Cruz away in the second half of a 64-43 win. Madeline Eck scored 15 points, nine of them in the second half on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting for the defending national champions, who improved to 8-0 on the season. Hannah Fox added 14 points and Emma McCarthy and Jackie Nagle added eight apiece off the bench. Kim Tom led the Banana Slugs (2-9) with 14 points on 6-for-16 shooting.
