Guilford held a steady lead in the first part of the second half. But down by seven at 51-44 with 8:28 left in the game, Elon used a 7-0 run to tie the game. Chris Chalko was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws to knot the game at 51. The Phoenix used a Jordan jumper and a free throw from Brett James to take a three-point 54-51 lead before Jordan Snipes converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the contest 54-54.

A layup by Strong at 1:47 gave the Quakers the lead for good. Elon would receive its final basket with 24 seconds left on a pull-up from Jordan to cut the Guilford lead to two at 58-56. Elon could get no closer as a dunk by Strong and two free throws by Thomas Burge would give the Quakers the win.

Snipes posted 12 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Quakers while Justin Strickland added 12 points. Burge notched 10 points and five rebounds and Clay Henson tallied seven rebounds and four assists.
