SUNY-Maritime outlasted Massachusetts College 126-124 in five overtimes Tuesday night, matching the Division III record for extra periods in a game.
Dave Bisei shot 13-for-22 from the floor, 6-for-10 from three-point range and 15-for-19 from the foul line in the loss for Massachusetts College (0-4). He played 55 of the 65 minutes. The game also set an apparent Division III record for most points scored in overtimes, as Maritime's 55 points surpassed the 50 points Babson scored in its five-OT game.
Most nights, No. 2 Wooster defeating an NAIA power would be the top story. The Scots topped Georgetown (Ky.), which came into the game ranked No. 8 in NAIA Division I, 80-73. It was Georgetown's second loss of the season against seven wins. Wooster improved to 4-0 behind 22 points and 14 rebounds from Tim Vandervaart.
On the women's side, new No. 1 Bowdoin survived a big early test, rolling past No. 3 Southern Maine 60-45. Mere hours after being bounced from the Top 25, Christopher Newport knocked off No. 12 Randolph-Macon 84-77. The Captains used a 24-13 run to take the lead with 3:22 left. There were no bells on the line, but DePauw beat Wabash anyway 92-82 as five Tigers scored in double figures. Rob Hanna scored a career high 24 points as Coe upended Wartburg 92-88 in overtime.
