Shenandoah senior reaches 1,000 boards

Shenandoah senior Cassie Womack became the first Hornets basketball player to register 1,000 career rebounds when she reached the milestone during the first half of the squad's contest at Methodist on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Womack, who broke Laura Johnson Sirbaugh's school record of 896 career rebounds Jan. 6 against Albright, got her 1,000th career rebound following a missed free throw by the Lady Monarchs. Needing eight boards entering the game to get the mark, Womack finished with 14.

Sporting a career rebounding average of 10.6, Womack is a two-time All-USA South Conference selection.

Womack also has an outside shot at reaching the USA South Conference record of 1,148 rebounds. With a semifinal round appearance in the conference tournament, Womack would have to average just over 14 rebounds per game for the remainder of the season to catch the record set by Christopher Newport's Beth Spurell from 1985-1989. She's averaging 11.9 so far this season.
