As conference tournament season kicks into high gear, some teams will find themselves pushed to the bubble, or will find the bubble popping underneath them. How will you know the status of the bubble? (Listen to much more bubble talk in Sunday night's Hoopsville.)
Here are some teams to root for if you are counting on needing one of the Pool C bids (for runners-up in conferences with automatic bids). There are 19 Pool C bids to the men's tournament Field of 59 and 20 Pool C bids for the women's Field of 63. (There are more women's basketball teams in D-III, so they get a larger tournament.)
These are teams who lead one-bid leagues -- as in, only one team will go to the NCAA Tournament unless this team gets knocked off.
For the men, root for WPI in the NEWMAC, Lake Erie in the AMCC, Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth, Salem State in the MASCAC and Brockport State in the SUNYAC. If any of them lose, they'll take an at-large bid away from someone else. For the women, follow the NESCAC (Bowdoin), MAC Commonwealth (Messiah), SUNYAC (Cortland State), MASCAC (Fitchburg State) and MAC Freedom (Scranton).
If too many of these teams lose, you'll be sweating it out on Selection Sunday. Listen to Hoopsville Sunday night for the announcement of the at-large teams or join us here on the site for a listing when released. Then, on Monday morning, the bracket itself will be available.
