Redlands' Mazarei hits 2,000

Redlands guard Amir Mazarei reached the 2,000-point plateau late Saturday night, scoring 42 points in a 113-102 loss at Pomona-Pitzer.

Mazarei is the third Division III player to reach the milestone this season and the first in Redlands history. In December, he broke a school scoring record that had survived the program's System era and endured for 44 years. Redlands, 13-5 and 6-2 in the SCIAC, has six regular-season games remaining. Mazarei is averaging 29.6 points per game.

Mazarei joins Mount St. Mary's Mike Hoyt and Baldwin-Wallace's Tori Davis among those entering the 2,000-point club in 2006-07.

'Tis the time of the season for the 1,000-point club as well. Of the 113 new members reported to D3hoops.com this season, 11 came on board on Saturday.
