WIAC's wildness hits women's side

The WIAC was thought to have a good shot at getting two teams into the NCAA Tournament, but Monday's women's quarterfinals might cause some recalculation.

UW-Whitewater was looking comfortable with a 10.636 QOWI entering the night, but in the end, it was seventh-seeded UW-Platteville that looked at ease, as Lisa Grantman hit a 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left to push the Pioneers to a 75-74 win. Platteville advances to the semifinals and will play at third-seeded UW-Eau Claire.

The shot gave Platteville (11-15) its first lead since the 18:04 mark of the first half. Liz Tesch scored 29 points to lead the Pioneers. UW-Whitewater's QOWI fell unofficially to 10.261.

Top seed UW-Stout advanced with ease, while No. 5 UW-River Falls beat fourth-seeded UW-Stevens Point 76-69. Monday's women's scores.

Occidental moved one step closer to clinching the SCIAC as the No. 19 Tigers beat LaVerne 85-54. They remain a game ahead of Cal Lutheran, which beat Caltech. Cal Lutheran finishes the conference season at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, while Occidental, which is still without injured preseason All-American Sam Betty, travels to Whittier. Monday's men's scores.

No. 6 seed St. Olaf advanced past third-seeded Bethel in the MIAC playoffs 81-79 in overtime, while Gustavus Adolphus beat Carleton.
