If Saturday was Taryn Mellody's final home game at Scranton, she went out in style. The All-American poured in 29 points to account for half of the No. 3 Lady Royals' offense in a 58-52 second round victory over Hamilton.
Scranton took a 31-19 halftime lead but the Continentals got back in the game with a 13-2 run to start the second half. Scranton is headed to their fourth consecutive Sweet 16 where it will meet No. 10 Mary Washington, winners over Christopher Newport 77-61. More women's scores.
Howard Payne added about 500 seats and still sold out Brownwood Coliseum, with an announced crowd of 4,356 in attendance for a 76-37 win. If confirmed by gate receipts, it would be a Division III record for women's basketball attendance.
No. 4 Messiah saw its season end with a home upset at the hands of Kean 89-84. Kean gets Randolph-Macon next. The ODAC champs prevented an NJAC rematch by beating William Paterson 74-59.

Sectional hosts announced Sunday afternoon
It was a good night for the IIAC with both representatives advancing. Katelyn Whiton scored 20 points for Simpson (photo gallery) in a 81-58 win over No. 23 Wheaton (Ill.). No. 25 Luther coasted past Carroll 84-50. And Puget Sound advanced off the West Coast in beating George Fox 51-48.
Iman Davis scored 15 of her 24 points in the second half as No. 13 Emmanuel rallied from 13 points down to edge No. 17 Brandeis 71-66. The Saints, who forced 35 Brandeis turnovers, will take on No. 9 DePauw, which held off Denison 74-66, in the sectional semifinals next Friday.
Lindsay Peuler hit a three-pointer with under five minutes left to give No. 7 Calvin a one-point lead over No. 16 Wilmington and the Knights held on for a 73-67 win. Calvin is playing without two of its top players, but it still has Lisa Winkle who finished the weekend with 36 points and 26 rebounds.
No. 1 Bowdoin won its 26th straight NCAA Tournament home game, toppling Keene State 77-52. A 15-0 second-half run for Bowdoin turned a tight game into a rout. The Polar Bears get No. 19 Rochester next as the Yellowjackets won easily at Cortland State, 68-51. No. 11 Washington University avenged its regular season defeat by winning at Lake Forest 58-47.
In the snow-delayed first round games, No. 8 Southern Maine held off Williams 68-62. The Huskies play Fitchburg State, 79-60 winners over Norwich, Sunday at 2 p.m.
