Brockport State men's basketball coach Nelson Whitmore has been named head men's coach at Hamline.
Whitmore, the D3hoops.com East Region Coach of the Year this past season, coached the Golden Eagles for nine seasons, including trips to the Elite 8 in 2002 and 2007. He compiled a 176-84 career record.
"Nelson has thrived at the highest level of Division III basketball, and we are excited to have him continue that success at Hamline," athletic director Dan O'Brien said. "Our student-athletes deserve the opportunity to play in March, and Nelson has the proven ability to take them there."
Hamline has gone 49-78 over the past five seasons, qualifying for the MIAC tournament once in that span.
Whitmore has the most wins of any coach in the Division III East Region since 2000, and the seventh most wins of any coach in Division III basketball since 2000.
"Hamline University has a great tradition in basketball, and I look forward to bringing the program back to prominence," said Whitmore.
Whitmore's teams were SUNYAC regular season champions in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2007. They added SUNYAC tournament titles in 2001 and 2002. Brockport named eight-year assistant Greg Dunne the team's interim head coach.
