Augustana junior Chandlor Collins put the finishing touches on a tremendous victory with a fast-break dunk to end an 83-70 win over the Zhejian Lions as the Vikings improved to 3-0 on their current tour of China. The game was played in front of 6,000 people in the new Olympic-style arena in Hohhot. Augustana won its final game as well, sweeping the four-game trip.
Defense has carried Augustana on this trip to the Far East and once again that was a staple as Zhejian, a professional team in the Chinese Basketball Association, was held to just .371 (26-for-70) shooting from the floor. The Vikings have held their opponents under .400 from the field in every game on the trip.
Augustana senior captain Jordan Delp has been blogging the entire trip, including a unique welcoming ritual which you can read more of on the D3hoops.com Daily Dose.
Balance on offense was a key as junior Alex Washington led the way with 16 points. Senior Dain Swetalla had 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds while sophomore point guard Matt Pelton had 11 points and made three of four from three point range. Delp was also in double figures with 11 points. Dan Rukavina led the way with 11 rebounds, six of them offensive as Augustana rolled up a 52-28 rebounding advantage.
Augustana led 44-30 at halftime but the Lions cut the lead to 69-63 early in the fourth quarter but huge baskets by Delp and Swetalla helped stem the tide.
