Washington U. went from postseason No. 3 to preseason No. 1, while the Mary Washington women did the same as the two teams who won last season's third-place game find themselves atop the D3hoops.com preseason Top 25 poll.
Mary Washington sits at the head of a large class of teams with No. 1 votes, as eight teams found the top of one or more of our 25 voters' ballots. Besides the Eagles, No. 2 Howard Payne (two), No. 3 Messiah (one), No. 4 Hope (four), No. 5 DePauw (seven) received No. 1 votes, as well as sixth-ranked Washington U., No. 8 NYU and No. 14 Brandeis.
On the men's side, Wash U got 15 first-place votes, with second-ranked Amherst getting eight as the defending national champion. Third-ranked UW-Stevens Point and No. 7 Brockport State got a No. 1 vote as well.
