Junior guard Cameron Stewart made a layup with seven seconds left in regulation to lead the Rhode Island College men's basketball team past Div. I Holy Cross, 61-60, in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Hart Center.
It's the second consecutive second that RIC has beaten a D-I team in an exhibition. The Anchormen beat Iona last November and later made the Division III Elite Eight.
Stewart gave the Anchormen a one point advantage, 59-58, by nailing a three-pointer with 38 seconds left in the game. After two Crusader free throws gave Holy Cross the lead, 60-58, Stewart put RIC up for good with the game-winning basket. He was second on the team in scoring with 15 points, including a 3-for-3 effort from downtown, to go along with three rebounds.
Sophomore guard Carlos Brown led RIC with 19 points, three rebounds and five steals. Junior forward Kaseem Johnson grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Alex VanderBaan led the Crusaders with 15 points.
