Five seniors have been named preseason All-Americans in men's basketball by D3hoops.com for 2007-08 and 16 of the 25 spots are occupied by players in the Class of '08 as the season opens.
Amherst's Andrew Olson and Wooster's James Cooper hold down the first-team backcourt spots, with Aurora's Larry Welton and Wash U's Troy Ruths the first-team forwards and Guilford's Ben Strong, the D3hoops.com Player of the Year in 2006-07, is the center.The full D3hoops.com men's basketball preseason All-American team.
Wheaton (Ill.) guard Kent Raymond and UW-Stevens Point forward Pete Rortvedt are the two juniors on the second team. They're joined by Brockport State guard Sherod Harris, who has one remaining semester of eligibility and will begin play for the Golden Eagles in December, Brandeis forward Steve DeLuca and Hardin-Simmons center Mardochee Jean.
The women's preseason All-American team will be announced in the upcoming days.
The preseason No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country are represented on the third team as well, in Wash U. junior guard Sean Wallis and Amherst senior center Kevin Hopkins. Hopkins came off the bench for the Lord Jeffs last year but got the most playing time at the position and averaged 10.4 points while shooting 64% from the floor.
