USM keeps home streak running

No. 12 Southern Maine won its 71st consecutive home game in sending No. 21 Bowdoin to its second loss on the season, getting balanced scoring in a 77-58 win. The Huskies received 12 points each from senior forwards Josalee Danieli and Shannon Kynoch and sophomore forward-guard Becky Dixon, and 10 more from sophomore guard Nicole Paradis. The Amherst women improved to 4-0 under new coach G.P. Gromacki, edging Keene State 70-65. More women's scores.

The No. 7 Brandeis men had little trouble with Babson, sprinting out to a 26-5 lead en route to a 72-57 win. Widener improved to 5-0 with a 75-56 win at Cabrini.

Plattsburgh State improved to 3-0 Tuesday night, winning at home against St. Lawrence 84-70. The Cardinals, who recently climbed all the way to No. 11, won a first-round tournament game on a buzzer-beater against Rochester last March.

Rhode Island College got even further in the playoffs last season, reaching the Elite Eight, but couldn't hold an 11-point lead early in the second half in falling to Fitchburg State 64-62. The Falcons improved to 4-0 after going 7-18 in 2006-07. More of Tuesday's men's scores.
