It's been a great day to be a Warhawk. The UW-Whitewater men and women won their conference openers against UW-Stevens Point, staying perfect and beating ranked opponents to start WIAC play.
On the men's side No. 20 UW-Whitewater shot 61 percent in an 83-77 win over No. 2 UW-Stevens Point. On the women's side, Kelsey Hendrickson's lay-up with eight seconds remaining gave the No. 10 Warhawks the late lead in their 75-71 win over No. 16 UW-Stevens Point.
No. 9 Mary Hardin-Baylor bolstered its position as the highest ranked team in ASC men's basketball. The Crusaders held off No. 23 Mississippi College 90-81 behind 23 points from Tillman Gaddy. Like UW-Whitewater, Mary Hardin-Baylor had a Saturday to remember with the basketball teams and football teams notching big wins.
There is one undefeated team left in the ODAC and it's neither of the two ranked in the Top 25. Roanoke holds that distinction, thanks to a late Zach Milton basket that lifted the Maroons to a 68-67 win over No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan.
No. 16 Hope finished a sweep at the CCIW/MIAA challenge, beating Carthage 85-75. No. 22 Wheaton (Ill.) bounced back from Friday's night drubbing to edge No. 15 Calvin 68-67.
No. 18 Capital got a late tip-in to beat Ohio Wesleyan 70-68. And the MIAC preseason poll took a hit as Hamline, picked last, defeated Bethel, picked first, 87-81. More men's scores here.
No. 21 Bowdoin has been a mainstay in the women's Top 25, but that status could be in danger. The Polar Bears dropped their second game of the week and third of the season, falling to Emmanuel 72-68. Conference rival Amherst moved to 6-0 with an 80-70 win over Springfield.
No. 4 Hope stayed hot with a 73-56 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) while rival No. 6 Calvin lost its second straight, slipping 52-50 against Carthage. More women's scores here.
