Immaculata, which lost at Alvernia in last February's Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's basketball championship game, got some payback Monday night as the Mighty Macs defeated the Crusaders 70-65.
Alvernia (3-3, 1-1 PAC) trailed for most of the second half and cut a 12-point gap down to four with 48 seconds left, but couldn't complete the comeback, doomed in part by a 9-for-23 effort from the free throw line. Immaculata improved to 4-0 behind double-doubles from Jason Hyman and Rob Jones. Monday's men's scores.
The Carleton women improved to 4-1 and 3-0 in the MIAC with a 64-61 win against St. Benedict. Monday's women's scores.
Carleton handled St. Benedict's men's school counterpart as well, dropping the Johnnies, an NCAA Tournament team last season, 61-59. St. Thomas, which will break into the D3hoops.com Top 25 when it is released, won its fifth game in a row in beating Hamline 72-64.
