Tommie coach hits 500

St. Thomas men's coach Steve Fritz joined the 500-win club with a win against archrival St. John's 71-58 on Monday night in St. Paul. The Tommies, who improved to 12-3, 8-2 in the MIAC, broke open the game in the second half with a 20-2 run to take a 55-37 lead and held the Johnnies (9-6, 6-4) at arm's length the rest of the way.

Fritz, the 12th Division III member of the 500-win club, has a .679 winning percentage in 28 seasons. The win came against Jim Smith, the second-winningest coach in Division III history. Fritz has won 40 of his 500 against St. John's. Full story.

Junior Caitlin Elsass scored a career-high 30 points and added 11 rebounds as the Capital women survived Wittenberg 85-83 at home in double overtime. The Tigers scored last in regulation and the first overtime to keep their upset hopes alive.
