Ranked teams had a rank week

Twenty-three of the regionally ranked men's teams, including four teams ranked No. 1 in their region, lost this past week.

That's the kind of week it was in Division III men's basketball, coming right after the first regional rankings. Rochester, the No. 1 team in the East in the NCAA's rankings, lost twice, Richard Stockton lost to a 5-19 team while Occidental lost at home to a .500 team it had beaten on the road.

That and some corrections to regional records from the NCAA's first release should result in some juggling in the NCAA's second regional rankings, which come out Wednesday afternoon. We've updated the strength of schedule numbers through Sunday's games and the men's and women's breakdown have a home on our right-hand menu rail for the rest of the season.

&&b-boxr&&Emory, which has played the strongest regional schedule in Division III women's basketball in terms of opponents' winning percentage, took down the Central region's third-ranked team on Sunday as the women's regional rankings were hardly immune. The top three teams in the Atlantic all lost, as did the top three in the Central and the top two in the East. Check out Saturday's women's and men's coverage for more on some of the weekend's big games.

Emory's men have played the strongest regional schedule as well, with games against Maryville (Tenn.), Guilford, Oglethorpe, Washington and Lee and Texas-Tyler augmenting the UAA slate.
