UWEC runs into WIAC title game

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has the top three teams in the latest NCAA regional rankings, and only two can reach the conference championship game. Those two are UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point after UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the region, was knocked off 79-71 in the semifinals on Thursday night by UW-Stevens Point.

UW-Eau Claire, No. 2 in the region but the top seed in the conference on a coin flip, had little trouble with fourth-seeded UW-Stout as Michelle Burns scored 27 points on 10-for-17 shooting and Heather Witt had 13 points and 10 assists. Haley Houghton tied her career high with 23 points in Stevens Point's win. Thursday's women's scores. &&teaser&&

Third-seeded Wilmington handled seventh-seeded Mount Union easily to reach the title game. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament got underway Thursday, with top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan advancing easily, as did Randolph-Macon.
