Former UWP coach gets another shot

At UW-Platteville, Todd Landrum had the unenviable task of following a legend, as the Pioneers' assistant coach took over for Bo Ryan when Ryan left for Division I UW-Milwaukee after four Division III national championships.

Landrum couldn't keep the Pioneers' roll going, and was let go after four seasons, compiling a 58-45 record.

He'll have a bit of a different task this time around, however, as he takes over as head coach at St. Mary's (Minn.) following the Cardinals' 2-23 finish.

Landrum, who has spent the last four years as the youth/scholastic basketball coordinator for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was named Cardinals' head coach Wednesday.

“College basketball head coaching positions are not easy to secure,” Landrum said, “and it is particularly exciting to have the opportunity to coach at an outstanding university in a great league. I'm really looking forward to working with the returning players, the staff at SMU and being a part of the university and Winona area community.”

“Coach Landrum quickly rose to the top of a very large national pool of applicants,” said SMU athletic director Nikki Fennern. “His history of success, his relentless energy, and his vast knowledge of the game will be instrumental in building our program. His extensive coaching experience and teaching of the game will be an asset to all current and future Cardinal men's basketball student-athletes.”
