Caltech coach makes move

After six seasons trying to do the near-impossible at Caltech, Roy Dow has resigned to take the women's head coaching job at Cal Lutheran.

Dow, who inherited a team in the midst of a 207-game losing streak against Division III opponents, went 4-144 in six seasons with the Beavers.

"I'm pleased to be aboard here at CLU," Dow said. "I'm inspired and excited to join such an outstanding coaching staff. I believe that the CLU support to athletics is equal to anybody else in the country and we truly have an opportunity to achieve championship caliber performances."

“Roy comes highly regarded for his work in building both academic and athletic success within his programs,” CLU athletic director Dan Kuntz said. “We are very excited about the addition of Roy to our CLU athletic team of coaches.”

Before his stint at Caltech, Dow coached at Colby, his alma mater. He has also held coaching positions at Chaminade, Holy Cross and Wheaton (Mass.). At Wheaton he was named the men's basketball head coach in the program's first year of existence and directed the program to a 61-65 record in its five seasons. Dow is taking over a program that finished 13-12 overall last season and in fourth place in the SCIAC. He becomes the 13th coach in the history of the CLU women's basketball program, replacing Kristy Hopkins.
