Petrels storm ahead

Katie Kulavic scored 20 points and had five rebounds and four assists as No. 2 Oglethorpe rebounded from its loss at Emory on Tuesday night to beat No. 23 DePauw 84-81. The Stormy Petrels (5-1, 1-0 SCAC) used a 13-3 run in the first half to tie the game and an 11-2 run in the second half to take the lead for good. Friday's women's scores.

Whitworth was involved in a pair of upsets, as its women's team knocked off No. 9 Wash U while its No. 15 men's team was upset by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The women faced double-digit deficits three times but shot 60 percent from three-point range for the game en route to the 73-68 win. The men's team made just seven field goals in the second half of a 75-68 loss.

Kent Raymond scored 28 points and had seven rebounds as No. 4 Wheaton (Ill.) rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Calvin 68-56 at home in the CCIW/MIAA classic. Carthage got 33 points from Steve Djurickovic to roll past Hope 89-68 in the event's first game. Chris Ruiz scored a career-high 41 points to lead Plattsburgh State past Brockport State 99-92 in overtime.
