Red Men upend Wheaton

In one fell swoop the Red Men claimed a tie for first place in the CCIW and left Division III basketball with one undefeated men�s team. Carthage rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit to knock off No. 1 Wheaton (Ill.) 55-54.

Playing without injured All American Kent Raymond, the Thunder built a 30-16 halftime lead but the Red Men answered with a 14-4 run to start the second half. Steve Djurickovic scored on three consecutive possessions to keep Carthage close and then found Adam Stuart who was fouled with 5.8 seconds left. Stuart hit both free throws to give Carthage the lead and Ben Panner missed a jumper at the buzzer. The Thunder shot just 46 percent (11 for 24) from the free throw line.

The last undefeated - and potential new No. 1 - team is No. 2 St. Thomas who rolled past Concordia-Moorhead 83-61, pushing the Tommies' record to 16-0. More men�s scores.

&&g-boxl&&No. 5 UW-Platteville defended its home court against No. 7 UW-Whitewater with an 86-78 victory. After Matt Goodwin hit a three-pointer to draw the Warhawks within two of the Pioneers with three and half minutes left, he committed a technical foul followed by another technical foul on the Whitewater bench. Mike Shaw hit all four free throws for the Pioneers and they never looked back. UW-Platteville trails No. 4 UW-Stevens Point who eased past UW-Eau Claire 80-60.

No. 22 Gettysburg got 68 points from its starters and shot 52 percent from the field to earn a big road win over No. 24 Franklin and Marshall 73-66. The Bullets have won eight straight and remained tied for first in the Centennial Conference with surprising McDaniel, who beat Johns Hopkins 65-49. No. 23 William Paterson handled Rutgers-Newark 71-54 to claim first place in the NJAC North.

In women�s action, No. 7 Stevens Point built a double digit lead against No. 6 UW-Eau Claire then held off the Blugolds for a 66-60 victory. UW-Eau Claire trimmed the lead to 46-45 but Ashley Baker's seven point spurt kept the Pointers in front to stay.

No. 19 Mary Washington couldn�t sustain its momentum following Monday night�s overtime win over No. 18 Marymount. Cory Boyd scored 15 points to push Wesley past the Eagles 52-48. No. 17 York (Pa.) cruised to an 82-41 win over Gallaudet for the Spartans� 15th straight win. They travel to Marymount on Saturday. More women's scores.

Bethany upset No. 20 Washington and Jefferson 66-61 behind red hot first half shooting. The Bison hit six of their first nine three pointers and led for nearly the entire game.
