UW-Lax whacks UWW

UW-La Crosse jumped out to a 19-6 advantage and led wire to wire as the Eagles upset No. 2 UW-Whitewater 62-53 in Wednesday night women's action.

Mackenzie Hunter scored a game-high 19 points and La Crosse held Whitewater to 6-for-28 shooting from three-point range in handing the Warhawks their second loss of the season. Wednesday's women's scores.

On a night in which weather wiped out the entire NCAC and OAC schedule, the No. 1 St. Thomas men avoided getting wiped out themselves. &&g-boxr&&Kent Raymond played 20 minutes and scored 13 points but had just two assists and No. 7 Wheaton's slide continued with an 81-66 loss at North Central (Ill.). The Cardinals have won seven in a row against their local rivals. Kai Massaquoi helped No. 12 Richard Stockton avoid an unthinkable upset when he tipped in a shot with 1.3 seconds left to lift the homestanding Ospreys past 4-15 Rutgers-Camden. No. 14 St. Norbert shot 63 percent from the floor and held No. 24 Carroll 28 points under its average in a 76-63 road win.

WPI's bench outscored MIT's 33-2 as the Engineers (Worcester's ones, that is) beat the Engineers 68-55. The Engineers improved to 6-0 in the NEWMAC, with the Engineers falling to 5-1.

Aside from UW-Whitewater, the rest of the Top 25 women's teams that got their games in rolled. Alexandra Chili scored 29 to lead No. 22 Muhlenberg over Ursinus 80-57. No. 15 Simpson beat Dubuque by 26, No. 8 UW-Eau Claire crushed UW-Superior by 27, No. 12 Thomas More beat Thiel by 33, No. 6 Hope beat Alma by 37 and No. 13 York (Pa.) routed Hood by 47.

Connie Tilley, who had the court at St. Norbert named in her honor on Saturday, picked up her 500th career basketball victory on Wednesday with a 66-54 win against Carroll.
