The Mules took the lead before the half and never relinquished it, though they had to survive an Alexa Kaubris jump shot as time expired to advance. Next up is Brandeis who led Mount St. Mary wire-to-wire in a 79-52 victory. The Judges advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time ever.
One night after last year's champion Howard Payne was eliminated, two more teams from last year's final four also lost. No. 7 Thomas More outrebounded No. 15 Messiah 40-18 and bounced the Falcons, 57-50. St. Benedict finished off No. 10 UW-Whitewater 69-57, denying the Warhawks another trip to the sectionals. No. 5 Oglethorpe is the only national semifinalist left. The Stormy Petrels handled No. 23 Greensboro 67-40. No. 3 George Fox doubled up Chapman 83-40 to set up a Top 5 showdown with Oglethorpe.
NCAA Tournament newbie York (Pa.) will keep dancing after ousting Baruch, 90-73. All five Spartan starters scored double-digits led by April Sparkman's 17 points and seven rebounds. York (Pa.) will draw a tournament veteran next in No. 20 Scranton. The Lady Royals defeated Cortland State 51-45 for their 18th straight win.
