Spencer Gay scored eight points in 73 seconds to lead top-ranked Washington U. past No. 8 Wheaton (Ill.) 64-62. Trailing 44-40 with 10:32 remaining, Gay scored eight points for Washington U. on four consecutive assists from Sean Wallis. He scored a fast-break lay-up to give the Bears a 48-47 lead, then pushed the advantage to 52-47 with a thunderous one-handed dunk with seven minutes remaining.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps edged No. 12 Chapman 57-56, the Panthers' first loss this season. Jason Banzhaf scored 17 points and Brian Baker added 15 in just 19 minutes as Catholic upended No. 21 Desales 70-66. A match-up between a Top 25 Division I team and a Top 25 Division III team had a predictable ending as Gonzaga (No. 21 in the AP Top 25) rolled past No. 15 Augustana 79-40. The Vikings shot 1 for 21 from three and committed 20 turnovers in the game.

In women's action, Franklin led for all of regulation and most of the first overtime but needed a second to finish off Transylvania, 97-94. Holly Milburne scored 25 points for the Pioneers, including a layup with two seconds left in regulation to force the game into extra sessions.
