First place goes Dutch

Lebanon Valley snapped a 17-game losing streak against conference rival No. 8 Messiah and grabbed first place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 58-42 victory.

The Flying Dutchmen (15-1, 6-0 in the MAC Commonwealth) held the Falcons (14-2, 5-1) to 19 points in the first half and a season low 26.4 percent field goal percentage in the game. Julie Henninger and Dori Gyori, who averaged a combined 25 points per game for Messiah coming in, scored just 10 against Lebanon Valley. Meanwhile Eryn Shultz scored 13 points and broke the Flying Dutchmen program record for career three pointers. &&f-boxr&&No. 20 UW-Stevens Point defeated UW-Eau Claire 69-56 to pull into a tie for first place in the WIAC with idle UW-River Falls. No. 22 UW-Whitewater did the same by beating UW-Platteville 79-65. Nicole Bundy had 29 points for the Warhawks, who host UW-Stevens Point next Wednesday.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright took in a game at her alma mater Wellesley and saw the Blue surprise Wheaton (Mass.) 61-59. Sophomore guard BriAnna Lucas scored five of her team-high 19 points during a 24-6 run in the second half as No. 11 William Paterson turned a 10-point deficit into 67-60 win against Montclair State.

Last week McDaniel beat Muhlenberg in its gym and tonight the Green Terror did the same to No. 24 Gettysburg, 51-48. Ashley Lyles' free throws with 4.8 seconds left preserved the McDaniel victory. Delaware Valley dealt Manhattanville its first loss in MAC Freedom play, 69-65. UW-Stout blew its game open in the second half, going on a 32-2 run out of the halftime locker room en route to beating UW-Superior 92-61.
