The 2010 Division III women's championship game is set: No. 3 Hope will play No. 6 Washington U. at 3 pm EDT on Saturday.

When Friday's games started, it didn't look like Washington U. was going to make it to the championship game. Amherst scored the first 10 points and led 28-18 at the half, holding the Bears without an assist through the first 20 minutes. But the Bears roared back and tied the game late.

Amherst had a chance to take the lead with 22 seconds left when Caroline Stedman was fouled on a fast break. But Stedman missed both free throws and the game went to overtime. Washington U. scored the first 12 points of the extra period and coasted to victory, 86-75 in overtime. Jaimie McFarlin scored 19 points and collected 14 rebounds for the Bears. Sarah Leyman tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lord Jeffs.

In the second final, Hope fought off Rochester in a hard fought game prolonged by a partial power outage. Buoyed by offensive rebounds and Rochester turnovers, Hope took 16 more shots in the first half en route to a 40-30 lead. After a partial power outage early in the second half, Rochester edged within two possessions. But the Flying Dutch quickly answered each time to hold Rochester at arm's length. Carrie Snikkers finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Meredith Kussmaul added 15 points and six boards for Hope. Melissa Alwardt scored 22 for the Yellowjackets.

With several hundred Hope fans already on hand and St. Louis just three hours away, Saturday's final could see a large crowd.  But if you can't make it to Bloomington, we'll cover all the action for you starting with Amherst and Rochester at 12 p.m. EDT.
