The Concordia (Ill.) men's basketball team has forfeited its Northern Athletics Conference victory from Nov. 23 of this season for using an ineligible player during the contest, the conference ruled today.
The Cougars, who had defeated visiting Lakeland 68-67 in overtime, may also have to forfeit a number of nonconference games from this season pending the NCAA's ruling. Concordia (Ill.) stats suggest up to five games could be affected.
The loss changes CUC's conference record to 5-9 with two NATHC games remaining, while Lakeland -- which has already secured the No. 3 seed in the North Division -- will improve to 9-6 in NATHC play.
The change in result will not affect Lakeland's position in the standings, but tightens the race for the final NATHC tournament spot in the South Division. Rockford (6-9 NATHC) plays at Concordia (Ill.) tonight in its final conference game, and would secure the final tournament spot from the South Division with a victory.
