Tuesday night featured several intrastate non-conference matchups with the Marietta men and Southern Maine women among the big winners.

No. 4 Marietta improved to 4-0 with a resounding 87-63 win over No. 17 Wittenberg in a battle of ranked Buckeye State teams. The Pioneers took over the game early by converting three Wittenberg turnovers into points on the Tigers' first three possessions. Marietta shot 7-for-13 from three in the first half and built a 45-33 lead. The Pioneers led by at least 10 points the rest of the game. Wittenberg's starters scored just 23 points combined, the same amount as Tyler Hammond and Kevin Knab scored for Marietta. Scott Kimmey came off the Marietta bench to lead all scorers with 17 points.

Rhode Island College had no trouble with intrastate foe Johnson and Wales, which played without All-American Lamonte Thomas and his 35 points per game. The Anchormen improved to 6-0 with an 89-62 win. Springfield is 5-0 after beating Keene State 89-75. The Pride host No. 3 Amherst on Friday night.

Upstate New York rivals Cortland State and Ithaca are best known for their football games, but Tuesday's basketball games were excellent. Devin Shea notched 30 points and 15 rebounds as Ithaca beat Cortland State 85-77 in overtime of the women's game. The Bombers pushed the game to overtime on a putback by Jenn Escobido with 10 seconds remaining. The Red Dragons returned the favor in the men's game by edging Ithaca, 68-67. Kevin McMahon scored the game winning basket with four seconds left.

In other women's action, Southern Maine used a 20-4 run to put away No. 10 Bowdoin, 63-49. The Huskies earned their first win over their intrastate rival since 2008 and their 31st in 44 games against the Polar Bears. Haley Jordan scored a career high 18 for Southern Maine.

Mount St. Mary stymied New York University and scored enough points to beat the Violets, 49-37. The Knights came into Tuesday night's game giving up just 42.6 points per game and holding their opponents to 30.3 percent shooting. The Violets shot 21.3 percent (10-for-47) and committed 26 turnovers in the loss.

Brooklyn is 5-0 after another lopsided victory. The Bulldogs beat Medgar Evers 71-19 and have also won games by scores of 80-12 and 70-31. McDaniel nipped Swarthmore 77-76 to improve to 2-0 in Centennial Conference action. The Green Terror trailed the Garnett 75-70 with a minute to play but got two three-pointers and a free throw from Steph Perez to seize the victory.
