Occidental's Makenzie Brandon made a serious run at the Division III women's basketball single-game scoring record on Thursday night and finished with 54 points in the Tigers' 115-105 win at La Verne.

The record, 61 points, was set by Oberlin's Ann Gilbert against Allegheny on Feb. 6, 1991.

In 2001, Emily Mullet of Eastern Mennonite threatened Gilbert's mark, finishing with 58 points in an 80-69 loss to Washington and Lee.

Brandon converted on 23 of 30 shots from the field, went 8-for-9 from the line and had 14 rebounds, eight assists and two steals as well.

In other Thursday night action, Howard Payne's Tresta Donahoo went coast to coast in 3.53 seconds and lofted a floater which beats the buzzer to lift the Yellowjackets past Concordia (Texas), 79-77.
