Nine teams from all across Division III's landscape converged on Owings Mills, Md., for the second annual Hoopsville Classic where Stevenson played host and played well, beating No. 18 Middlebury 80-69.

The Mustangs scored the first six points of the second half to build a 42-32 lead. The Panthers hung faught back and got within three with 2:17 to play. After Middlebury's Jack Roberts blocked a Stevenson layup, the Panthers took over with a chance to tie. But All-American Joey Kizel missed a three-pointer, and Darius Walker grabbed the defensive rebound for Stevenson and found Alonzo Hawkins for a three-point play, fouling out Kizel in the process. Alfonzo Hawins finished with 17 points for Stevenson.
No. 19 Cabrini battled past No. 10 St. Mary's (Md.) 84-78 in the Classic's night cap. Aaron Walton-Moss scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a full 40 minutes. Fran Rafferty added 21 for the Cavaliers while Brendan McFall paced the Seahawks with 23 points in 38 minutes.
Elsewhere No. 14 Hampden-Sydney stunned Mary Washington by turning a five-point deficit into a one-point victory in 13 seconds. The Eagles led 65-60 after Bradley Riester converted two free throws. Hampden-Sydney's Greg Lewis hit a three-pointer with five seconds left to cut the deficit to two. After Mary Washington turned the ball over, Lewis hit another three at the buzzer to complete the rally, 66-65.
No. 8 Wooster defeated Baldwin Wallace 76-71 behind a big game from Xavier Brown and late scoring from Doug Thorpe. He scored six points in the final two minutes and Brown scored 31, including hitting all 11 of his free throw attempts.
No. 13 UW-Whitewater took care of Hope 83-70 in the Flying Dutch's season opener. The Warhawks finished the game with a 23-9 run and outrebounded the Flying Dutch by 11. Hope travels to No. 5 UW-Stevens Point tomorrow.
Women's recap
Illinois Wesleyan used a 7-0 second half spurt to pull away from No. 25 Cornell 79-70. Lexi Baltes and Shelby Jackson combined for 37 points for the Titans. Illinois Wesleyan forced 29 turnovers.
Rose-Hulman shot 50 percent from the field and held No. 20 FDU-Florham to 33 percent shooting, but the Devils won anyway, 75-56. FDU-Florham hit 28 of 35 free throws, including nine for Delisha Thompson who was 1-for-7 from the field.
No. 1 DePauw defeated Millikin 63-48 at Centre's weekend tournament. No. 2 Washington U. cruised past Northern Athletics Conference champion Wisconsin Lutheran 79-48.
