Wooster and Hope have two of the premier men's basketball programs in the Great Lakes region, but they haven't played each other often. Tuesday was one of those rare matchups, and the Scots bested Hope in the final of the "Mose" Hole Classic, 78-75.

Homestanding Wooster opened a double-digit lead in the first half, but Hope chipped away at its deficit and took the lead on a pair of Ben Gardner threes midway through the second half. The Scots and Flying Dutchmen went back and forth the rest of the way. Wooster's Dan Fanelly scored a layup with 48 seconds left to break a 73-73 tie. Alex Lalonde blocked Gardner's shot on the next Hope possession, and the Scots made enough free throws the rest of the way to secure the win. Recap
No. 14 Wooster improves to 8-2 while Hope drops to 6-4 with three losses to ranked teams and the fourth to NAIA Aquinas. It was the first meeting between the teams since Hope beat Wooster in the second round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.
No. 24 Marietta picked up where it left off before the holiday break. The Pioneers edged No. 19 Eastern Connecticut 79-78 on a RaNeal Ewing dunk in the final seconds. Fellow OAC member John Carroll defeated previously unbeaten and 18th ranked St. Norbert, 80-70. The Green Knights shot three for 19 from three.
No. 2 Augustana finished its non-conference schedule with a 71-66 victory over Coe. No. 8 Illinois Wesleyan wasn't as fortunate. The Titans fell at Cal Lutheran 67-61 as Coltrane Powdrill scored 18 points for the Kingsmen (5-2). No. 15 Amherst fended off Drew, 78-74. David George posted 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lord Jeffs while Jason Huelbig had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Drew.
St. Joseph's (Maine) traveled more than 3,000 miles to play Pomona-Pitzer in California and was rewarded with a 58-53 victory. St. Joseph's (Bklyn.) made a similarly long trip to Chapman but came up short against the Panthers, 75-68.

No. 5 Washington U. and No. 8 St. Thomas overcame quality opponents to stay unbeaten.
Wartburg hit six 3-pointers in the first seven minutes against Washington U. But the Bears shut out the Knights for the game's final 13 minutes and stormed back for a comfortable 63-48 win. Recap
St. Thomas converted 18 Carthage turnovers into 25 points and overwhelmed the defending CCIW champions on their floor, 67-45. Maggie Weiers had 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting. Recap
North Park built a double-digit lead with 2:28 to play against No. 22 St. Mary's (Minn.). The Cardinals tried to rally but ran out of time and the Vikings held on, 64-62.
North Central (Ill.), which employs Grinnell's uptempo system, tied the Division III record for consecutive 100-point games and pounded Eureka, 106-65. The Cardinals will go for the record and put their undefeated record on the line against Illinois Wesleyan in the CCIW opener on Saturday.
Maura McAfee posted her sixth double-double of the season and Hope defeated York (Pa.) 74-60 in Ohio Wesleyan's holiday tournament. Jess Rheinheimer posted 29 points and 12 rebounds as Eastern Mennonite dominated Christopher Newport, 74-54.
