In the most anticipated regular season game in recent memory, No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan used its speed and outside shooting to beat No.1 Yeshiva 73-59 and end the Maccabees' 50-game winning streak.

Playing in front of an energized crowd on Yeshiva's home court in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City, Illinois Wesleyan hit its first two 3-pointers to go up six and poured in seven more before the first half was done. The Titans outscored Yeshiva 27-0 from behind the arc in the first half and led by 20 at the break, 49-29. Illinois Wesleyan led by at least 20 for much of the second half until the Maccabees trimmed the deficit to 73-59 with 3:28 to play. Neither team scored the rest of the way with the Titans content to run the clock when they had the ball.

Illinois Wesleyan used its size and speed to frustrate Yeshiva and hold All-American Gabe Leifer to six points. Meanwhile five Titans scored double figures, led by All-American Matt Leritz who had more rebounds by himself (25) than Yeshiva did as a team (21). The Titans (9-2) shot 52 percent as a team. All-American Ryan Turell led the Maccabees (14-1) with 22 points.

Illinois Wesleyan's win opens up a chance for a new No. 1 team when the next poll is released on Monday, Jan. 3. No. 3 UW-Platteville, which now has the longest winning streak at 16 games, bolstered its resume for that spot by blasting St. Norbert, 82-57.

Elsewhere Drew held No. 24 DeSales to four field goals over the game's final 12 minutes and the Rangers rolled past the unbeaten Bulldogs, 71-54. After DeSales took a 46-40 lead, Drew scored the next nine points and took the lead. The Rangers had another 16-0 run a few minutes later to put the game away. Howard McBurnie, Jr. had a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) for Drew (7-5).

Most other Top 25 teams in action won comfortably. No. 6 UW-Oshkosh hit 11 three-pointers and clobbered Ripon, 86-59, to up its record to 12-1. No. 17 Mount Union blitzed Lycoming 107-61 on 58 percent shooting on 20 points in 23 minutes for Ethan Stanislawski.

On the women's side, No. 8 UW-Eau Claire bounced back from its Wednesday loss to Calvin and beat No. 18 Texas-Dallas in the Lone Star State. UW-Eau Claire scored the final seven points of the second period and took a 31-25 lead to the lockerroom. In the second half, the Blugolds pushed the lead as high as 12 on Jessie Ruden's three-pointer early in the third quarter. The Comets rallied back within one, 43-42, in the final minute of the period. But Ruden hit another three to restore the Blugolds' two-posssession advantage which they held the rest of the way.

Ruden and Tyra Boettcher combined for 38 points and 11 rebounds for UW-Eau Claire (10-2). Paris Kiser was the sole player to reach double figures for Texas-Dallas (6-3) with 13 points.

Piedmont scored at the end of regulation to force overtime and then scored at the end of that extra period to knock off No. 9 DePauw, 75-74. DePauw led 62-58 in the closing minutes of the fourth period but could not put the game away. Nakiyah Washington scored a layup for Piedmont to cut the Tigers' lead in half and the Tigers followed with a missed layup, two missed free throws and a turnover. Washington was fouled with one second remaining and hit both free throws to send the game to overtime.

In the exta period, DePauw and Piedmont traded leads, including five times in the final minute. After Grace Kinsey's layup gave DePauw a 74-73 lead with 10 seconds left, Karla Cantrell answered with the game winner for Piedmont.

Washington scored 18 points and Livia Skinner added 20 points and seven rebounds in 42 minutes off the bench for Piedmont (8-3). Kinsey had a double-double for DePauw (11-2) which was playing without leading scorer Mya Shannon for the third time in four games.
