It was a tough night to be a team ranked in the D3hoops.com men's basketball Top 25, as Friday night saw all five higher-ranked teams fall: No. 8 Wash U., No. 14 Oswego, No. 21 Pacific Lutheran, No. 23 Nazareth and No. 24 Case Western Reserve, two of them at home.

Thirteen days ago, New Paltz suffered its worst loss of the season to No. 14 nationally ranked Oswego State by a score of 82-53. Friday, the Hawks made sure no such repeat occurrence would happen, ending the Lakers' 17-game winning streak at the Hawk Center in a down-to-the-wire 64-63 victory. Get the full recap.

Emory Matthew Schner was up to his usual brilliance as he contributed 20 points on 14 shots to go along with nine rebounds as he played all 40 available minutes in the No. 18 Eagles' win at No. 8 Washington U. Schner has led the Eagles in scoring in every conference game this season and has scored 20 points or more in eight of the 10 conference matchups. Get the full recap.

Pacific Lutheran put the clamps on No. 21 Whitworth in the second half, holding the Pirates to just 22 second-half points and emerged victorious 64-48 inside a packed Olson Gymnasium. PLU (16-6, 11-2 NWC) put on a defensive clinic, holding Whitworth to just 48 points, 38 below their season average and just 28 percent shooting in the second half. With an electric home crowd on hand for what was the biggest game of the men's basketball season, the Utica fans, and Pioneers, showed out for the team's 82-67 win over the No. 23 Nazareth Golden Flyers. The Golden Flyers were unable to find any offensive rhythm with the stands rocking as the team put up just 10 points over the final five minutes. Utica controlled the final minute of the game, letting the clock run out for its most crucial win of the season to this point. Get the full recap

No. 24th Case Western Reserve erased an 11-point second half deficit against New York University on Friday night, but ultimately succumbed to the Violets in a 77-70 loss. It was NYU's first conference win of the season after eight defeats. The Violets went back ahead by four, 69-65, with 1:32 left, before an and-one by Frilling cut the lead back to a point. After a missed free throw by NYU on the front end of a one-and-one gave the Spartans a chance to regain the lead on the next possession, CWRU could not convert any of their three tries after a pair of offensive rebounds. NYU followed with a pair of free throws, extending its lead to four, and two more free throws after a CWRU turnover with 30 seconds left made it a two-possession game. The Violets continued to hit their free throws down the stretch for the seven-point win. Get the full recap.
