It was an open secret for weeks, long before either school made the announcement, but it was nonetheless true. New York University men's basketball coach Dave Klatsky is leaving the school and leaving Division III in order to become an assistant coach at the University of Florida.
The official notice of his hiring was delayed by the Gators' run to the Division I national title, which they won by defeating the University of Houston 65-63 on Monday, April 7. In fact, Klatsky was spotted seated behind the bench during the broadcast of that championship game.
NYU finally made its announcement that Klatsky was leaving on April 22. "We're incredibly proud of what Coach Klatsky has accomplished here at NYU," said athletic director Jake Olkkola. "Taking our program to the national championship game in just a few years speaks volumes about his leadership, intellect, and the culture he helped build."
Klatsky, who was the 2025 D3hoops.com men's basketball Coach of the Year, spent three seasons at NYU, helping the Violets reach the national title game for the first time in 31 years, where they ultimately fell to Trinity (Conn.), 64-60. He compiled a 68-16 record in his three years. NYU had gone 30-45 in the three seasons before Klatsky's hiring.
Prior to NYU, Klatsky spent 11 years as an assistant coach at Division I Colgate.
