Jon VanderWal has taken the head coaching job at Trine, and will leave Marietta, where he has been head coach for the past 18 seasons. The 2018-19 D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region men's basketball Coach of the Year, he compiled a 341-150 record at the helm of the Pioneers, nine times leading them to the NCAA Tournament, three times to the Elite Eight and once to the Final Four.

At Trine, he replaces Brooks Miller, who led the Thunder to the 2024 Division III men's basketball national title before departing earlier this month to take an assistant coaching position at Division I Central Michigan.
