The Generals give this bracket four stars.

We predicted St. Lawrence, the committee selected Washington & Lee, who was definitely on the board when we made our projections. Not a bad night and day overall.

The winner of the Texas bracket hosting sweepstakes is ... Hardin-Simmons! With Mary Hardin-Baylor's men hosting the first weekend, the Crusaders could not also host for women. This was also true of last weekend's ASC tournament which was hosted by East Texas Baptist. This time the Cowgirls will host a pod.

The loser of that sweepstakes is Whitman. Usually there's one west coast pod hosted by the NWC winner, but this year Whitman goes to Hardin-Simmons to play fellow west coaster Whittier.

The Committee has worked hard in recent years to split Amherst and Tufts into separate brackets so they can't meet until the Final Four or title game. No need to do that this year, so the Mammoths and Jumbos are lined up to play each other in the Sweet 16, if they make it that far.

DePauw went from potentially hosting at least one weekend to playing the CCIW champion at UW-Whitewater. That Wittenberg loss really hurt.

Some years we do better than others in projecting the at-large bid winners and this year we did very well. We hit on 19 of 20 with the lone miss being Washington & Lee over St. Lawrence. We'll have to wait until the final rankings to know if St. Lawrence even made it to the table or if Region 3 had another rep under consideration after Cortland was taken.
