WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Shippensburg University used a dominating rebounding advantage Saturday night to key an 85-70 exhibition men's basketball victory over host Shenandoah.

The Red Raiders held a 43-29 advantage on the boards, including 30-4 on the Hornets offensive end, to push past SU in the third annual pre-season exhibition game between the two schools.

This led to Ship having an 18-5 bulge in second chance points.

Shippensburg grabbed 14 of 15 missed Shenandoah shots in the first half as it took a 45-35 lead into the halftime lockerroom.

SU never seriously threatened following the break, but an 8-0 Hornets run from the 16:01 to 14:42 marks did cut the deficit into single digits for the first time since Mitch Dudley hit the first of two free throws 14 seconds into the second stanza.

Unfortunately for the Shenandoah faithful, Ship answered that SU run by scoring 10 of the game's next 12 points and never saw its lead drop below 14 points the rest of the way.

Compounding this was an 18 of 35 performance from the line for the hosts including 14 of 25 for the Hornets starting five of Dominic Chappell, Dudley, Brandon Bryan, Corey Levenberry and Kevin Kline.

Kline was the best of this bunch, hitting all eight of his attempts to go along with 7 of 11 from the field.

Kline had a game-high 22 points while Bryan added 17.

Lamar Jackson paced a group of six Shippensburg players in double figures with 13 points.

Shenandoah opens its 2010-11 season a week from Monday with a 7:00 home game against pre-season No. 3 in the nation Eastern Mennonite.
